The Democratic Party (DP) has appealed to the government to make deployments and tighten security in different parts of the country ahead of the festive season.

Speaking to the press at the DP party headquarters at Balintuma Road in Nankulabye on December 17, 2024, DP spokesperson Ismail Kirya said some people commit crimes during the festive seasons because of too much excitement.

“There are many people who want to take the opportunity of these festive days to commit crimes like robbery, rape, and murder sometimes,” Kirya said.

Kirya urged the police to enforce law and order through security deployment in communities.

“We appeal to the security agencies that this is the time for maximum deployment in different parts of the country for people to enjoy their festive season peacefully,” he said.

Kirya added that the event organizers should collaborate with the police and other security agencies to ensure security at their venues.

“We appeal to event organizers to work with security to check whoever enters the concerts. We therefore advise the government and the citizens to do their work. The citizens should also enjoy their rights responsibly, not to offend others,” he said.

Kirya also advised parents to watch over their school-going children during festive seasons, stating that there are some wrong elements to spoil them.

“It is good to allow our children to enjoy themselves during this season, but at least you can have some adult person to watch over them,” Kirya said.

With just a few days to Christmas Day, Ugandans are expected to join the rest of the world in celebrating the big day but exercise extra vigilance for safety.
