Centenary Bank, together with Water.org, a global Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), has launched a partnership aimed at addressing Uganda’s water and hygiene challenges.

The partnership introduces an innovative microfinance loan product of over UGX 30 billion from Centenary Bank, enabling affordable water sanitation and hygiene solutions.

Fabian Kasi, the Managing Director of Centenary Bank, while speaking at the launch held at Mapeera House on October 29, 2024, said that this partnership is another step towards addressing the community challenges of access to water and sanitation.

According to Kasi, Water.org gave Centenary Bank a grant of USD 200,000 to reach people who will need these services, and the program will target 13,000 households.

“As part of this agreement, water.org has been very generous by giving us a grant of USD 200,000, which is over UGX 700 million. This grant will cover the operational costs of training our staff. They have already started training and making benchmarking visits in other developed environments. In this aspect, we believe that our team will be adding quite a lot on how best we need to deliver these services to our customers,” Kasi reported.

Water.Org, founded more than 30 years ago, is an NGO that works to bring people access to safe water and sanitation through affordable financing such as small loans.

The partnership is poised to deliver significant benefits to the communities served by the bank, particularly in rural areas where access to safe water is a critical issue. In addition to improved access to safe water, other benefits will be realized, like alignment with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), support for women and vulnerable groups, economic empowerment, and health benefits.
