Today, May 19, 2025, the Busoga Kingdom stands tall as His Majesty, Kyabazinga William Wilberforce Gabula Nadiope IV, graduates with a Master of Advanced Studies in Global Affairs from Yale University.
This achievement marks his second master’s degree, following an MBA from Coventry University in 2015, while he continues pursuing a PhD at the University of Portsmouth. His academic journey is a beacon of inspiration for Busoga’s youth and a testament to the transformative power of education.
At 36, the Kyabazinga stands as a role model in a region where educational attainment has lagged due to poverty, early marriages, and teenage pregnancies. UNESCO’s 2023 data shows only 67% of Busoga children complete primary education, with fewer reaching secondary school.
Against this background, Nadiope IV’s commitment to learning-from a Bachelor’s in Economics at Kyambogo University to advanced global studies at Yale-sends a powerful message: education is key to empowerment and progress.
Since his coronation in 2014, the Kyabazinga has championed education and youth empowerment, notably advocating against teenage pregnancy. His efforts earned him recognition as a United Nations ambassador to end this practice, inspiring many young girls and boys to prioritize schooling.
Recently, his leadership extended to cultural diplomacy during a visit from Namibia’s King Emmanuel Gaseb, highlighting Busoga’s model of blending traditional leadership with modern governance.
Minister Yudaya Babirye emphasized that education in Busoga integrates cultural values with preparing responsible citizens.
The Kyabazinga’s Yale education equips him to address Busoga’s challenges with global insights, continuing a family legacy of leadership and education.
