UPC Condemns Security Brutality on BBS TV Journalist

According to media reports, the journalist's gadgets were damaged as he was rounded up and manhandled by several security officers.

The Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) party has condemned the brutality on the journalists while covering the ongoing political campaigns in different parts of Uganda.

According to Faizo Muzeyi, the head of media and communications at the party headquarters, warned that brutality causes tension and mistrust in the public, which sometimes results in violence.

“The party is concerned about some of the ugly scenes in the ongoing campaigns between security forces, some candidates, and journalists. This brings in unnecessary contestation and mistrust, which at times turns very violent, and yet it should have been avoidable,” Muzeyi said.

He made the remarks while addressing the press on Wednesday, January 7th, 2026, at the party headquarters at Uganda House in Uganda’s capital, Kampala.

According to Muzeyi, campaigns should reflect order and peace in the path of democratic electoral processes, adding that they should be based on discussions or interaction to ensure integrity.

UPC has echoed its voice after a video clip made rounds on the media platform, especially X, where the security personnel were seen meting out brutality against a BBS television journalist who was professionally covering a campaign rally in Sebei sub-region.

According to media reports, the journalist’s gadgets were damaged as he was rounded up and manhandled by several security officers.

“This type of violence is uncalled for; it must be fully investigated to avoid such occurrences in the future. Let us get ready for the polls in a very peaceful manner and make the process very fair and transparent,” Muzeyi said.

Meanwhile, the police have not yet commented or confirmed the video that is making the rounds on social media that pins security involvement in the violence.

However, amid allegations of brutality by security forces, Party president Jimmy Akena is still on the ground campaigning for candidates who are seeking to secure political positions in Uganda’s parliament and other elective positions at different levels of governance.
