The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) has confirmed that 30 suspects, including a District Inspector of Schools (DIS), head teachers, and teachers, have appeared before the Mengo Chief Magistrate’s Court to answer charges related to malpractice in the 2024 Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE).
The suspects are set to re-appear before the Chief Magistrates court in Mengo on November 26, 2025, for mention. UNEB said the suspects were arraigned following investigations into alleged breaches of the UNEB Act, particularly involving unauthorized possession, leakages, and aiding malpractice during the examination period.
The group was charged under various provisions of the UNEB Act 2021, which criminalizes any action that compromises the credibility, confidentiality, and smooth conduct of national examinations.
In a statement issued by the Principal Public Relations Officer, Jennifer Kalule Musamba, UNEB reiterated its commitment to safeguarding the integrity of national assessments, noting that the arrests reflect the Board’s strengthened enforcement mechanisms.
“UNEB remains committed to protecting the integrity of national exams and ensuring that all offenders are held accountable under the law,” the statement reads in part.
The Board added that measures to curb examination malpractice have been intensified this year, including improved security around exam distribution points and increased collaboration with security agencies.
The suspects have been remanded as investigations continue, and more arrests are expected as UNEB works closely with law enforcement to dismantle organized malpractice networks.
UNEB urged the public, teachers, and school administrators to uphold professionalism and cooperate with the Board to ensure fairness and credibility in national assessments
