The Uganda National Examinations Board has extended the normal registration deadline for the 2026 national examinations to June 30, giving candidates and schools more time to complete the process without incurring late registration penalties.
The extension applies to the 2026 Primary Leaving Examination (PLE), Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE), and Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) examinations.
Speaking today, UNEB Executive Secretary Daniel Odongo said the move is intended to accommodate newly accredited examination centres and ensure all eligible candidates are registered in time.
Under the revised arrangement, late registration will begin on July 1 and close on July 31, 2026. Candidates registering during the late period will attract surcharges of 100 percent for PLE and 50 percent for both UCE and UACE.
UNEB emphasized that there will be no further registration after July 31, 2026.
The Board also confirmed that government will continue paying registration fees for candidates under the Universal Primary Education (UPE), Universal Secondary Education (USE), and Universal Post O-Level Education and Training (UPOLET) programmes.
Private candidates will pay; UGX 34,000 for PLE, UGX 164,000 for UCE , UGX 186,000 for UACE
Odongo warned schools and individuals against fraudulent practices, including falsifying sponsorship arrangements, and urged examination centres to complete registration early to avoid congestion commonly experienced near deadlines.
Last year, UNEB registered a record 1.4 million candidates for the national examinations.
