In a bid to address the affordability problem of clean energy, the Uganda Energy Credit Capitalisation Company (UECCC) is set to launch a price subsidy program for clean energy technologies due to take place on December 5, 2024, in Kiboga district.

Roy Baguma Nyamutale, the Managing Director of UECCC, made these revelations while addressing the media on the upcoming launch on December 2, 2024, at the Uganda Media Centre in Kampala.

Nyamutale revealed that UECCC is the implementing agency of the Financial Intermediation Component of the Electricity Access Scale-Up Project funded by the World Bank and the government of Uganda, stating that it will partner with over 65 Energy Service Companies (ESCOs) to deliver the Price Subsidy Program, which is one of the programs under the Financial Intermediation Component.

He highlighted that the price subsidy program will address the affordability barrier associated with the upfront cost of acquiring clean energy technologies by households and enterprises.

“Ugandans are set to benefit from price discounts for eligible clean energy technologies with discounts of solar lanterns dropping up to 60%, while solar lighting dropping to 50%, clean cooking solutions energy dropping to between 30%-50%, and energy equipment dropping to 60%,” Nyamutale said.

Nyamutale added that the program aims to enhance access to electricity, most especially in the rural and remote areas of Uganda.

“We are committed to imploring every Ugandan to embrace the program and access clean, reliable, affordable, and sustainable energy,” he added.

He further noted that the only requirement to purchase the discounted products from the selected ESCOs will be a national identification card and the ability to cover the discounted price. Nyamutale clarified that households will be able to take their products home immediately.
