Two Children Found Dead After Flash Floods Hit Mulimira Zone, Bukoto

Two juveniles have died in Mulimira Zone, Bukoto, after heavy rainfall and flash floods swept through parts of Kampala early Wednesday on March, 26, 2025.

According to the Uganda Red Cross spokesperson Irene Nakasiita, the children were left alone in their home overnight as their mother went out to search for food. And By the time the rain began in the early morning hours, she had not returned.

“The heavy rains which flooded several houses and destroyed house hold properties left the vulnerable children helpless since their room where they were staying was flooded, the local community later found them unresponsive and our response team was called to support the community,”Nakasiita stated.

She further revealed that, the assessment team is still on the ground, working with local leaders and the Police to determine the extent of the damage.

The Kampala metropolitan polices Patrick Onyango confirmed the incident and the detectives have launched an investigation surrounding the death of the two children.

Elsewhere in the city, floodwaters caused massive disruptions. Roads in Banda, Kyambogo, and Kinawataka (Katogo) became impassable, stranding motorists and commuters during the morning rush hour.

Michael Kananura, spokesperson for the Directorate of Traffic and Road Safety, advised motorists to avoid the affected areas and, where possible, delay their journeys.

As the heavy rains continue, authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety. The Uganda Red Cross, local leaders, and emergency terms remain on high alert to respond to any further incidents arising from the adverse weather conditions.

The incident aligns with Uganda’s climate mobility challenges, where extreme weather events displace communities and threaten livelihoods. Experts emphasize the need for drainage infrastructure upgrades and public sensitization to mitigate such disasters
