105 resettlement homes and titles are set to be officially handed over by Total Energies UG to Project Affected Persons (PAPs) on Monday, June 12, 2023, in Buliisa District.

Total Energies UG is currently developing 205 decent residential houses worth US$10 million in Hoima, Buliisa, and Kikuube districts. Out of the 105 completed houses to be handed over today, 74 are already occupied, and occupation permits are being secured for 31 units while construction is ongoing for 100 units.

According to the Director of Social Performance at Total Energies, Joy Muballe, the structures are located on parcels of land chosen by the affected households and have been designed to last for at least 25 years before any major refurbishment is required.

Muballe said that the homes have two to four bedrooms. Depending on the size of the original structure, a sitting area, a veranda, an outside kitchen, a solar-powered system, a rainwater harvest water tank (5,000 liters), and a Ventilated Improved Pit Latrine have been provided for every unit.

Philippe Groueix, the General Manager of Total Energies, together with Josephine Muyimba, the Project Engineer of Resettlement Houses, took a tour around the newly constructed houses being handed over today and interacted with some of the PAPs.

“I have joined Project Affected Persons to peel cassava, which will be chipped, dried, and milled for kalo, using the post-harvest handling equipment distributed as part of the Tilenga Project Livelihood Restoration Programme,” Groueix said.

Dr. Ruth Nankabirwa, the Minister of Energy and Mineral Development, is set to officiate the event and award titles to people whose primary residence was impacted during the identification of land for the construction of the Tilenga Project.
