The Minister of Internal Affairs, Gen. Kahinda Otafiire, has urged Ugandans to protect the country’s hard-earned peace, warning that any recklessness could shatter the stability restored by the NRM.
He made the remarks on Wednesday, 3rd December 2025, as President Yoweri Museveni and top NRM leaders campaigned in Mitooma District, drawing thousands of enthusiastic supporters.

Otafiire reminded the crowd of Uganda’s turbulent past, saying the country lost nearly 20 years to conflict before stability was restored.
“Open your eyes and see the peace we have created. Peace is like a glass, its good when it’s in your hands. Once it drops, it can cut you,” Otafiire said.
A short clip about Museveni’s rally in Rubirizi district
President Museveni opened his address by emphasising that Uganda’s peace is a result of strong institutions built over four decades.
He highlighted Mitooma’s development progress, noting that all but three sub-counties are now connected to the national power grid, and all villages have access to clean water.
Museveni also announced that the Bwizi–Kabwohe–Kitagata road will be extended to Mitooma.
Calling for disciplined budgeting, he urged voters to remind MPs to prioritise one project at a time for faster completion.
Museveni praised Mitooma’s expanding social infrastructure, which includes 109 government-aided primary schools, 97 private primary schools, 16 public secondary schools and an ongoing government hospital project.
However, he warned against confusing public development with household wealth. He again promoted the four-acre model, citing farmers from Busoga and Karamoja who are earning millions by diversifying into coffee, dairy, poultry and piggery.
For those with large landholdings, Museveni recommended commercial crops like cotton, tea and maize, and announced a new loan scheme to support large-scale farmers with fertiliser purchases.
The President celebrated Uganda’s rising agricultural output, noting increases in coffee production now at nine million bags and milk production, which has grown to five billion litres.
He also highlighted job creation through industrialisation, pointing out that Namanve Industrial Park alone employs 44,000 people.
Museveni pledged an industrial hub for Greater Bushenyi and promised to erect an electric fence around Queen Elizabeth National Park to protect farmers from wildlife invasions.
First Lady Maama Janet Museveni thanked God for guiding Uganda into a peaceful era and urged citizens not to forget the past. She praised leaders who have worked to unify the NRM in Greater Bushenyi.
