The Ministry of Health (MoH) has announced a UGX 21 billion contract for innovative medical equipment at Soroti and Jinja Regional Referral Hospitals, a significant milestone in the country’s healthcare sector.
A statement dated December 5, 2024, was posted on the official X account of Diana Atwine, the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, confirming that a deal worth UGX 21 billion has been reached with M/s SIRIUS Corporation in Japan to supply and install medical equipment at Soroti and Jinja Regional Referral Hospitals.
“This initiative, funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), falls under the Project for the Improvement of Medical Equipment at RRHs in Uganda,” the statement read in part.
According to the statement, the advanced medical equipment to be installed includes X-ray machines, ultrasound machines, ENT equipment, dental equipment, surgical tools, and other items.
The statement further revealed that the installation of the new equipment is slated to commence in October 2025 with a 3-year maintenance contract to also be put in place.
‘’Later, comprehensive training and commissioning activities will be conducted in November and December of the same year to ensure the optimal functioning of the equipment,’’ the statement read.
This investment is projected to improve healthcare services at the Soroti and Jinja Regional Referral Hospitals, resulting in more accurate diagnosis, efficient treatments, and better patient outcomes.
