FUFA Suspends Five Individuals Over Alleged Match-Fixing

“FUFA received a FIFA betting report indicating the game was fixed for betting purposes, with prior knowledge that Express FC would lose and concede at least five goals,” the federation said.

The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has provisionally suspended five individuals over alleged match manipulation involving a Uganda Premier League match between Kitara FC and Express FC played on December 21, 2024.

In a statement released on March 12th, 2026, FUFA said the decision followed preliminary investigations by the Ethics and Disciplinary Committee’s Investigatory Chamber after receiving a betting integrity report from FIFA.

“FUFA received a FIFA betting report indicating the game was fixed for betting purposes, with prior knowledge that Express FC would lose and concede at least five goals,” the federation said.

Preliminary findings indicate that Mike Mutyaba allegedly coordinated the match-fixing scheme with Ivan Katende, while Express FC CEO Ashraf Miiro was also implicated in the alleged plot.

“The three Mutyaba, Katende, and Express FC CEO Miiro Ashraf conspired to manipulate the match,” the statement noted.

Investigators also linked suspicious betting activity to the case, with accounts associated with Katende reportedly placing bets through a Tanzanian betting company that later blocked payment after detecting suspected fraud.

The investigations further pointed to the involvement of Express FC players Emmanuel Kalyowa and Ashraf Mbazira, who were allegedly recruited to influence the match on the field of play.

“To safeguard the game’s integrity, the Investigatory Chamber has provisionally suspended Mike Mutyaba, Ashraf Miiro, goalkeeper Kalyowa Emmanuel, Mbazira Ashraf and Katende Ivan from all football related activities pending disciplinary proceedings,” FUFA said.

The federation added that it has engaged the Criminal Investigations Directorate and that investigations are ongoing.
