Part of the family of the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) leader Joseph Kony family returned to Uganda on Wednesday, February 26 , 2025 , aboard Ethiopian Airlines.
The family which included his wife Judith Acan, daughters Betty Akidi and Maisa Amu and his son Pope Kony was brought to Uganda by the Director of Cabinet of Central African Republic (CAR) Fulbert Gbangona Dabora and was received at Entebbe International Airport by the Minister of State for Northern Uganda Dr. Kenneth Omona.
While speaking to the press , Gbangona said that the cooperation between Uganda and Central Africa is strong thus allowing anyone willing to cooperate return to Uganda.
“We’re grateful for the cooperation and hope it continues. If anyone wishes to return, we’re ready to welcome them. Whether they want to go to Uganda or Central Africa, it’s all the same. I feel at home in both places” He said
The state minister for Northern Uganda Kenneth Omona urged Ugandans to accept, cooperate and welcome the family of Kony by helping them resettle in the community.
Minister Omona urged, “You are welcome home. I would like to thank all Ugandans and encourage them to embrace our returning children. Let us help them reintegrate into the community and support their resettlement. This will enable them to actively contribute to the socio-economic transformation of our country.”
Kony founded the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) in the late1980s, initially as a rebel group fighting against the Ugandan government. The LRA’s ideology is a mix of Christianity, occultism, and traditional Acholi values.
Under Kony’s leadership, the LRA has committed widespread human rights abuses, including forcing thousands of children into soldiering and sex slavery, massacres, civilian killings, abductions, forced labor, and the use of child soldiers.”
Kony’s whereabouts are currently unknown, but he is believed to be hiding in the Central African Republic (CAR) or the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Despite numerous military operations and international efforts to capture him, Kony remains at large
