Police in Mityana are on a manhunt for a 30-year-old Peter Bafirawala, a resident of Busaato village, Kalangaalo sub-county, Mityana district, who killed his best friend after he caught him having sex with his wife in a coffee plantation.

Bafirawala hacked his friend Edward Sekiwunga to death on December 25, 2024, around midnight in Mamba village, Kalangaalo sub-county, Mityana district.

Joseph Mukwaya, the Kalama village councilor, said Bafirawala invited Sekiwunga to his home on Christmas Day to drink alcohol; however, late in the night, they both dozed off due to overconsumption of alcohol.

According to him, later in the night, Sekiwunga went outside with Bafirawala’s wife to the garden, started having sex, and were found by Bafirawala, which angered him, and he killed Sekiwunga.

’’Bafirawala and the deceased were best friends in that Bafirawala was even the Sekiwunga’s best man, so we were shocked to find out that their friendship ended in bloody shambles due to disloyalty from the deceased,’’ Mukwaya said.

He revealed that after Bafirawala committed this crime, he went to the police and reported himself; however, he later escaped and ran away.

While speaking to the media on December 27, 2024, Rachael Kawala, the Wamala regional police spokesperson, confirmed the incident and revealed that a manhunt for Bafirawala is underway, and once arrested, he is going to face justice for his crimes.

Kawala added that a manhunt for Bafirawala’s wife is also underway because Sekiwunga’s death is centered around her, so once arrested, she will be taken in for questioning.

’’We as police strongly condemn the heinous crime Bafirawala committed; however, we are doing our best to capture him, have him arrested, and be charged with manslaughter,’’ Kawala disclosed.

She called upon community members to engage authorities when faced with personal grievances, emphasizing that resorting to violence is never the solution.

In 2024, Mityana has witnessed several tragic incidents linked to infidelity, highlighting the severe consequences of domestic disputes that have led to tragic confrontations.
