“We expected a delegation from PLU. We’ve still been waiting for them. We’ve not yet seen the delegation come through,” Asiimwe said.

Young activists have rejected any attempt by General Muhoozi Kainerugaba to succeed his father as president, while questioning the legal status of the Patriotic League of Uganda after the organization failed to attend a Uganda Law Society forum to respond to a formal legal opinion on its registration.

Speaking at the 39th edition of the Radical New Bar Live weekly engagement on Thursday, October 29th, 2026, at ULS House, the Society Vice President, Anthony Asiimwe said the society had issued Executive Order RNB No. 13 of 2026, setting out a legal opinion on PLU’s status under the Political Parties and Organisations Act.

He said the organization had been invited to the opening panel to allow the matter to be discussed through dialogue, but its representatives did not show up.

“We expected a delegation from PLU. We’ve still been waiting for them. We’ve not yet seen the delegation come through,” Asiimwe said.

He stressed that political organizations must comply with the legal requirements for registration and that the society seeks to help the public understand such legal questions.

During the second discussion, titled “Is Uganda a Dynasty? Youth Voices on Political Succession,” Dr. Papa Salim Were, the Principal of Papa Were Academy, argued that Uganda is not a dynasty.

“Political positions have clear criteria through which they are attained,” he noted.

He described General Muhoozi as a “cabbage,” rejected PLU’s leadership and called for the release of all political prisoners, including Dr. Kizza Besigye.

Benjamin Akiso, the Head of Institutions at the National Unity Platform, also maintained that Uganda is a republic, not a dynasty, and said freedom must be fought for.

David Musiri, the President General of the Students’ Brotherhood, cited Article 1 of the Constitution of Uganda, which vests power in the people, and Article 3, which allows citizens to use whatever means are necessary to defend the country.

He described PLU as a “privileged modern rebel outfit” and questioned its accountability for its activities.

Activist Praise Aloikin Opoloje, who was recently released after an abduction, said Muhoozi could not become president simply because he is President Museveni’s son.

“We need a president who is a president on his merits,” she said, adding that Article 3 requires citizens to defend the country by all means possible.

All four youth speakers rejected any attempt to transfer presidential power through family succession, insisting that the country’s leadership should be determined through free and fair elections.
