The National Unity Platform Party (NUP) has confirmed that they formally wrote to the police informing them about the upcountry tour, which kicks off today in Mbarara City.

Joyce Bagala, the Mityana District Woman MP (NUP), said they wrote to the police informing them about their mobilization drive as per the constitution.

While featuring during the Monday Morning Breeze on NBS TV, MP Bagala noted that the current mobilization tour aims at reawakening Ugandans to keep on with the call to take over power.

“NUP informed the police in accordance with the Public Order Management Act 2013. We are determined to utilize every legal means possible to remove the NRM regime from power and assume control.” Bagala

Regarding the recent rallies conducted by the special presidential advisor, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, MP Bagala claimed that having many people attend doesn’t justify political support for him.

“Rather, it is a consequence of the regime’s practice of depriving Ugandans of opportunities, forcing them to rely on handouts as a means of survival. Their attendance does not imply an endorsement of the general,” said MP Bagala.

Godfrey Kiwanda, NRM chairman for the Buganda region, described NUP as a regional party since it doesn’t have viable political support outside Uganda.

“NUP is going to Western Uganda but has no legislators from the whole region; in the East, they have 3 or 4, and the party’s strength has been in Central,” said Kiwanda.

Kiwanda believes that the wave of support for NUP is decreasing while NRM is gaining back its support within the Buganda region.

NUP has started on a country-wide tour, starting with Mbarara on August 28, 2023, to mobilize for support ahead of the 2026 general elections.
