Tooro Kingdom has appointed the Uganda Media Centre (UMC) as the Official Media Partner for the burial of His Majesty Ikingura Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV.
In a statement released on Thursday, September 3th, 2026, by the Office of the Prime Minister (Omuhikirwa), Calvin Armstrong Rwomiire confirmed the appointment, marking the beginning of official communication arrangements for the King’s final journey.
According to the statement, UMC will lead and coordinate all official media coverage from the arrival of His Majesty’s body at Entebbe International Airport on September 4th, 2026, throughout the funeral ceremonies, culminating in the burial in Fort Portal on September 12th, 2026.
As the Official Media Partner, the Uganda Media Centre will be responsible for coordinating live coverage of key ceremonies, official photography and video production, accreditation and coordination of local, national and international media, as well as the distribution of official photographs and footage.
“Given the national, regional and international significance of this solemn occasion, Tooro Kingdom is committed to ensuring that His Majesty’s final journey is documented and shared with the dignity, respect and order befitting a King,” the statement reads.
The Kingdom has further called upon all media houses, journalists, photographers and content creators covering the funeral proceedings to work within the established media coordination arrangements and to respect the privacy of the Royal Family and those closest to His Majesty as they mourn.
The announcement comes as the Kingdom prepares to receive the body of the late King, who reigned as one of Uganda’s youngest monarchs. Tooro subjects and well-wishers across Uganda and the diaspora are expected to converge in Fort Portal for the historic burial.
Further information regarding the official burial programme, media accreditation and access arrangements will be communicated by Tooro Kingdom in coordination with the Uganda Media Centre, the Prime Minister’s office said.
