Luyombya Godfrey, the Speaker of Nakawa Division Urban Council, has officially withdrawn his candidacy for the Nakawa Division Urban Council Mayoral race just a few days before party primaries.

In a statement dated July 3, 2025, Luyombya expressed gratitude to the people of Nakawa Division for the opportunity to serve as Speaker and Councillor over the past four years.

He praised the community, fellow councillors, and party leadership for their unwavering support throughout his tenure.

“It has been a privilege of my life to serve Nakawa Division… Above all, I acknowledge the National Unity Platform for entrusting me with its mandate,” Luyombya stated.

He highlighted efforts in promoting clean water access through the construction of over 10 spring wells and boreholes, donation of more than 200 wheelchairs to persons with disabilities, bursary provision for needy children, and extensive road and drainage works.

Luyombya had declared his intention to run for Mayor of Nakawa Division in the upcoming elections, but after internal consultations and engagements with senior party leaders and stakeholders, he decided to step aside.

“Upon all the procedural discussions, I found it prudent to withdraw from the race in the interest of harmony and cohesion,” he said.

He emphasized the value of prioritizing service over positions and reaffirmed his loyalty to the National Unity Platform.

“Conclusively, I remain a committed member of the National Unity Platform Political party. So help me God,” he concluded.

Luyombya Godfrey had entered the race for the 2026–2031 term as Nakawa Division Mayor, challenging incumbent Paul Mugambe and Ali Bukenya Robert, popularly known as Nubian Li, a singer-turned-politician and brother to National Unity Platform (NUP) President Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu (Bobi Wine).
