The Uganda Police Force’s Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening community engagement as a key pillar in its crime-fighting strategy, during a national review meeting held on August 2, 2025, at its headquarters in Kibuli.

The quarterly meeting brought together Regional CID Commanders from across the country to evaluate ongoing operations, analyze crime trends, and refine strategies for building stronger ties with the public.

Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIGP) Tom Magambo, who serves as Director CID, highlighted the importance of public trust and collaboration in effective policing.

“By working closely with the community and other stakeholders, we build trust and improve our capacity to prevent and investigate crime,” AIGP Magambo said. “We are committed to using intelligence and community feedback to guide our operations.”

Discussions focused on enhancing community partnerships, promoting transparency, and utilizing shared information to address emerging crime threats.

Officers also shared experiences and best practices in areas such as digital forensics and integrating technology into investigations.

While acknowledging the increasing role of data and modern tools in law enforcement, Magambo emphasized that sustainable crime prevention must be grounded in public confidence and cooperation.

“Community involvement is not just a support mechanism, it is a strategic tool for effective law enforcement,” he said.

The quarterly review is part of CID’s broader efforts to modernize policing and adopt a citizen-centered approach, with the goal of building safer, more resilient communities across Uganda.

By strengthening trust and collaboration between law enforcement and the public, the Directorate aims not only to curb crime but also to foster a culture of shared responsibility and accountability in safeguarding communities nationwide.
