Police has blocked the National Unity Platform (NUP) leaders and their supporters from accessing the new offices at Makerere Kavule that were to be launched on November 2, 2023.

This follows an earlier communication made by the NUP party to officially open their party headquarters at Makerere Kavule on Thursday, November 2, 2023.

Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, alias Bobi Wine, the president of the NUP party, together with other invited guests, were expected to officiate the opening of the new headquarters.

According to Allan Sewanyana, the Member of Parliament for Makindye Division West, police denied NUP supporters access to offices, reasoning that the road would be used by other important people, including President Museveni.

NUP leaders and party supporters moved back to their party offices in Kamwokya after security denied them access to Kavule offices.

While in Kamwokya, the NUP Secretary General, David Lewis Rubongoya, told the media that the ceremony will happen on Friday, November 3, 2023, as per the advice of Kawempe Resident City Commissioner (RCC), Yasin Ndidde.

He also said the police claim that they did not have enough security for NUP supporters, yet several deployments were made to stop them from launching the new offices.

This follows a letter from Ndidde dated October 31, 2023, addressed to Rubongoya, informing the party of several other activities meant to take place on the same date, adding that security will not allow the event to take place for purposes of securing the area for VIP’s.
