The dispute now places Tooro at a delicate crossroads between customary authority and Uganda’s legal framework. Omusuuga Kamurasi has called for respect for tradition and the law, while President Museveni has called for peace and unity among the Batooro.

In Rukungiri Municipality, Ingrid Turinawe is challenging the election of Lt Gen Henry Tumukunde, while in Kinkizi East, Sam Arinaitwe Kajojo has petitioned against Health Minister Dr. Chris Baryomunsi. Both cases also name the Electoral Commission as a respondent.
The aftermath of the 2026 general elections so many NUP supporters were arrested and some before the elections and many have not been granted bail as others have been lucky to be granted bail by different courts.
The accused include Martin Muwonge, Hakim Bwire, Paul Sseremba, Ezra Kawanda, Fred Ssali, Simon Geserwa, Godfrey Kasule, Vivian Nakitende, Mohammed Waswa, Grace Nayebale, Shafiq Musisi, Shakuru Lubega, and Simon Ssuuna.
The Electoral Commission has received several petitions from aggrieved parties and their hope is in the Commission chairperson to intervene so that voters can get electoral justice.
“We have lost many who have never been seen like Kibalama, many of our comrades have been arrested and tortured and have spent six years in prison and many continue to be detained like Alex Waiswa, Olivia Lutaaya, Doreen Kaija and others. I want to request you to reject the diversions and divisions and there is no turning back we have to sail on and victory is in sight and we are closer to victory, don't give up,” Kyagulanyi added.
“Museveni has been speaking about democracy, but where is that democracy he speaks of if he can't tolerate those who criticise his government? What is happening in villages undermines the same democracy he talks about,” Ssenyonyi said.
“From the bail application, applicant 1 Muwanga Kivumbi and 16 others have been granted bail Kivumbi has to pay a cash bail of 10 million Ugx and the 16 co-accused cash bail of 1 million Ugx, the other 6 applicants have been denied bail due to issues with their sureties” Hatanga said.
“We all know the LCI structure is the first structure and if you are to strengthen the party you start with these structures. So I encourage all the leaders to engage in these elections,” Rubongoya said.
