The police have advised the public to adhere to safety measures in the environment they live in in order to minimize accidents that claim lives or critically injure people at home, school, hotels, or lodges.

The Uganda Police spokesperson, ACP Kituuma Rusoke, while addressing the media during the weekly security brief at Naguru police headquarters on Monday, September 23, 2024, sensitized the public on safety at home, schools, and business areas, following people failing to cover manholes and not installing fire extinguishers in a building, while some people not taking interest in teaching workers how to use them.

Rusoke highlighted that it’s important to teach workers how to use fire safety equipment installed in a building to prevent further damage to property and loss of lives, and owners of erected buildings to keep monitoring their structures in order to see loopholes that silently cause danger in the environment.

’’People in their homes do not care about open manholes, septic tanks, and pit latrines, and then when their children accidentally are trapped or fire breaks out and they find that they don’t have fire extinguishers, they push blame to the police, yet they should have minimized this if they had adhered to safety precautions,’’ he said.
