Uganda Bureau of Standards (UNBS) has attained a certification of Quality Management Systems following the Bureau’s excellence in the rigorous Quality Management Systems Audit conducted by Axe Register, which assessed various aspects of UNBS’ operations.
In a statement released by Sylvia Kirabo, the Principal Public Relations Officer of UNBS on Thursday, August 3, 2023, UNBS has experienced a historic achievement with the award of the prestigious ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management Systems Certification.
According to Kirabo, the audit covered a range of critical functions, including the Development of National and Regional Standards for products and services through the Standards Department, as well as other key areas such as Human Resources, Customer Complaint Handling, Corporate Planning, and the Procurement Disposal Unit.
“By meeting the demanding requirements of the ISO 9001:2015 standard, UNBS has demonstrated its commitment to delivering consistent, high-quality services and products to its stakeholders,” Kirabo said.
ISO 9001:2015 is an internationally recognized standard for Quality Management Systems, emphasizing the establishment of efficient processes and a strong focus on customer satisfaction. With this certification, UNBS gains a competitive edge and establishes itself as a credible and trustworthy entity in the eyes of its stakeholders, including consumers, businesses, and government agencies.

According to the statement, ISO 9001 certification encourages the integration of internal policies and procedures, streamlining operations and optimizing resource utilization.

Mr. John Ongom, the Director of UNBS, expressed his delight and appreciation for the hard work put in by the entire UNBS team.

Kirabo noted that, the ISO 9001 certification is not a one-time achievement but involves a continuous improvement process, adding that, certification cycle is set for three years, spanning from July 27, 2023, to July 27, 2026.
“During this period, UNBS will undergo annual audits to maintain compliance with the ISO 9001 standard and ensure continuous enhancement of its quality management systems,” she noted.
The ISO 9001:2015 certification opens up new opportunities for UNBS, presenting the chance to establish meaningful partnerships with both local and international organizations. It also fosters a culture of continual improvement within the Bureau, driving innovation and efficiency in its operations.
