Police in Kampala have launched investigations into a fatal hit-and-run crash that claimed the life of Ugandan musician David Sifaayo, popularly known as Master Parrot.
The incident occurred on Sunday evening at around 7:30 p.m. near Masanafu along the Northern Bypass, according to Kampala Metropolitan Police.
Preliminary investigations indicate that an unidentified speeding vehicle knocked the musician as he attempted to cross the road before fleeing the scene without stopping.
Police spokesperson ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the Deputy Public Relations Officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police, confirmed the incident in an official statement issued on Monday.
“Preliminary findings indicate that an unidentified speeding vehicle knocked a pedestrian who was crossing the road before fleeing the scene. The victim was later identified as David Sifaayo, popularly known as ‘Master Parrot,’ a Ugandan musician,” Owoyesigyire said.
He added that police officers visited and documented the scene before conveying the body to Mulago City Mortuary for a postmortem examination.
“The scene was examined and documented by police, and the deceased’s body was conveyed to Mulago City Mortuary for postmortem examination. Personal belongings recovered from the scene are in police custody,” the statement further noted.
Police have since commenced efforts to identify and trace the vehicle involved in the crash.
“Investigations are ongoing to identify and trace the vehicle involved. More details will be communicated as inquiries progress,” Owoyesigyire said.
The death of Master Parrot has sparked grief among fans and members of Uganda’s entertainment industry, with many taking to social media to pay tribute to the late musician.
Master Parrot was a Ugandan recording artist known for his contributions to the local music industry. Over the years, he built a loyal fan base through his performances and music, earning recognition within Uganda’s entertainment circles.
Police have urged anyone with information that could assist investigations to report to the nearest police station as efforts continue to locate the driver responsible for the fatal crash.
