As Uganda counts down to the swearing in of President elect Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on May 12, government has rolled out a comprehensive roadmap of activities leading to the inauguration, calling on citizens to actively participate in what officials describe as a defining national moment.

Speaking today during the press conference at the Uganda Media Centre, the Minister for Presidency Milly Babirye Babalanda said preparations are in advanced stages, with a series of nationwide engagements lined up to build momentum toward the ceremony at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds.

“We call upon all Ugandans to be part of this historic occasion with discipline, calmness, and patriotism as we usher in a new term of leadership,” she said.

Government has outlined key pre-inauguration activities designed to mobilize citizens and reflect on national progress.

These include nationwide thanksgiving prayers across all religious denominations:

Friday, May 8 – Mosques

Saturday, May 9 – Seventh Day Adventist Churches

Sunday, May 10 – All other churches

In addition, government will release the end-term evaluation report of the 2021–2026 National Resistance Movement (NRM) manifesto, with preliminary findings indicating an 88 percent implementation rate.

Authorities have intensified mobilisation efforts across the country, with Resident District Commissioners (RDCs) tasked to coordinate awareness campaigns at local level, supported by media engagements on radio, television, and digital platforms.

The National Organising Committee is also working with Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) to ensure that proceedings are broadcast live on large digital screens across the city, allowing wider public access beyond the main venue.

At least 30 international delegations have confirmed attendance, alongside dignitaries from across government, the diplomatic corps, religious institutions, and cultural leadership.

Security agencies have heightened readiness across the Kampala Metropolitan area and beyond, with a coordinated deployment led by the Uganda Police Force, supported by the Uganda People’s Defence Forces and specialized units.

Authorities say detailed traffic arrangements will be communicated ahead of the event to ensure smooth movement.

Government has urged Ugandans to turn up in large numbers for the ceremony, emphasizing that the inauguration is not only a constitutional requirement but also a symbol of national unity and continuity.

“This is a moment for every Ugandan to reflect on the journey of our country and actively participate in shaping its future,” Babalanda also noted.
