Uganda's celebrations were tempered by disappointment in the boxing ring. Heavyweight boxer Aziz Abdul, the grandson of former Ugandan President Idi Amin, was disqualified during his quarter-final bout against England's Damar Thomas after the referee ruled that he had headbutted his opponent in the third round. The decision immediately ended Uganda's hopes of securing a boxing medal at the Games.
President Mohamud thanked Uganda for its continued military support through the Uganda People's Defence Forces (UPDF), saying the contribution has helped Somalia make significant progress despite persistent security challenges.
