The President also recalled the close cooperation between Uganda and Tanzania, citing trade, the East African Crude Oil Pipeline, the Murongo-Kyikagate mini-hydro project, roads in Tanzania, the Masaka-Bukoba transmission line and the Standard Gauge Railway, which has reached Isaka and is expected to extend towards Uganda and beyond.
According to Mukula, Uganda believes in the free and orderly movement of people, goods, services, and capital within the framework of regional laws and protocols, stating that it will continue to stand for the dignity of African brothers and sisters because Africa belongs to Africans.
“Prisons Service has been infiltrated by the military,because for us who have been been in Prison, we know why prisons officers operate and handle issues. What we saw at the court was just military in the prisons uniform. Why would a prisons officer be that bitter and angry against us accessing our sick leader?” Lulume asked.
“Let's ask Museveni what happened to Lubowa Hospital. Uganda taxpayers have paid more than UGX 1.4 trillion to Pinetti, and nothing is on the ground. Even in this financial year, Parliament is set to release an additional allocation of UGX 305 billion in promissory notes to Pinetti, with zero progress,” Centenary said.
The protesters put forward several demands, including the resignation of the Speaker of Parliament, Anita Annet Among and the four backbench commissioners, a reduction in the number of Ugandan MPs, an audit into MPs' lifestyles, the resignation of any MPs involved in corruption scandals and a reduction in MPs' salaries and allowances to a maximum of Ugx 3 million.
