Government has halted enforcement of its controversial trade order after mounting pressure from traders, religious leaders, and lawmakers, pausing evictions of street vendors and kiosks as consultations begin.
The suspension, announced by State Minister David Bahati, follows sharp criticism in Parliament over the handling of the crackdown, with authorities now promising a more balanced and consultative approach before any rollout resumes.
“The transformation of Africa requires moving priority infrastructure projects from conception to implementation through coordinated planning and regional cooperation,” President Museveni noted.
Residents and district leaders in Bukakata Sub County, Masaka District, have called for the urgent removal of a roadblock established by the Fisheries Protection Unit (FPU) on the Masaka-Bukakata road.
