At least eight people have been confirmed dead after a vehicle rammed into pedestrians in Kabwohe town, Sheema municipality, in a devastating early-morning accident.
According to eye witnesses, the crash happened on Saturday, April 25th, 2026, at around 7:00 AM in Rushararara, just after ICOBI Hospital. A vehicle, reportedly a Toyota Fielder, registration number UA 702DL (black in color) struck a group of people who were walking along the roadside.
The victims are believed to have been returning home from overnight prayers at St. Rose Church. All eight were confirmed dead at the scene.
Several others were seriously injured and taken to nearby health facilities, where some remain in critical condition. Authorities said the death toll could rise.
Preliminary reports suggest that the driver may have been drinking overnight in Kabwohe before the incident, although this has not yet been officially confirmed.
Residents have been urged to check on relatives who may have attended the overnight prayers on Friday night.
At the time of filing this story, police had not yet released an official statement, and investigations into the cause of the crash are ongoing as the community mourns the loss of lives.
