Police Arrest Eight Over Viral Video Linked to Alleged Violent Attacks
Police have arrested eight people in connection with a viral social media video in which a group of men allegedly boast about carrying out violent attacks on members of the public.
The suspects were arrested on Tuesday, September 8th, 2026, during an intelligence-led operation at Gojo Gym in Namungona, Lubya Parish in Rubaga Division, Kampala District.
Police said four of the eight suspects arrested are allegedly featured in the video, which has been circulating widely on social media.
In the video, a group of about six individuals allegedly claim to have attacked several people, leaving some victims with broken jaws and teeth. They are also alleged to have demanded a share of money earned by dentists treating the victims and threatened medical practitioners who failed to comply.
Police said preliminary investigations indicate that the gym was allegedly being used as a meeting point by the group, with members reportedly operating under the guise of training in boxing.
Investigators are examining the suspects’ possible links to a range of alleged criminal activities, including robbery, housebreaking, theft, phone snatching, use of deadly weapons and unlawful possession of narcotic substances.
The suspects arrested are Mohammed Matiti, also known as Beast-Commander; Nurudin Kasule, alias 2 I/C; Umar Mubiru; Adams Lukooya; Martin Kiyimba; Junior Alinda Yosam; James Walumu; and Elvis Simanya.
Police said Kiyimba, Alinda, Walumu and Simanya were found at the gym, with some of them allegedly in possession of suspected narcotic substances.
The eight suspects remain in police custody as investigations continue, with police expected to produce them in court.
Police are also pursuing other individuals allegedly featured in the video as investigators seek to establish their identities and determine their possible involvement in the reported crimes.
The Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson, SP Racheal Kawala, appealed to members of the public with information about the suspects or possible victims to come forward and assist investigators.
Police said the operation is part of ongoing efforts to identify and disrupt groups suspected of engaging in violent criminal activities in Kampala.
