Police in Kampala have confirmed the deaths of a mother and her toddler who were electrocuted in Kikonda B village, Nsambya sub-county on the night of October 25.
The victims, identified as 30-year-old Zawedde Edith and her one-and-a-half-year-old daughter Abigail Muwanguzi Nalubega, were found dead in their home after coming into contact with faulty electrical equipment.
A police team that responded to the scene established that the house had an illegal power connection, which is believed to have caused the fatal shock.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Kituuma Rusoke cautioned the public about the dangers of unauthorized electrical installations.
According to him, such connections often involve poor wiring and are done by unqualified persons, posing significant risks to residents.
“We send out strong warnings to anyone involved in illegal power connections to desist. Investigations are ongoing to identify and hold accountable those responsible for the wiring that led to this tragedy,” ACP Rusoke said.
He made these remarks while addressing journalists at the weekly security briefing at the Police headquarters in Naguru this morning.
Authorities are urging the public to avoid engaging unlicensed electricians and to report any illegal electrical connections to the police to prevent further deaths linked to unsafe power access.
The bodies of the deceased were conveyed to the mortuary as investigations continue into the incident.
