The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party Vice President for Eastern region, Salaam Musumba, has urged party members to respect the party rules and focus on why the party was formed as they aim at developing it.

Musumba made the remarks during a press conference held at Fairway Hotel in Kampala on Thursday, August 3, 2023, as the party aimed at stopping members from participating in the ongoing internal party leadership selection exercise.

She added that for the good of the party, Uganda and democracy, members of the National Executive Committee (NEC) should abide by the rules of the party for which people have lost their lives and sacrificed a lot.

She condemned the confusion of the elections that Nathan Nandala Mafabi, the Party Secretary General and Patrick Amuriat Oboi, the President have spearheaded.

“It is not much to ask from our colleagues for an election that meets the standard of the electoral process,” Musumba noted.

She added that it is a big shame for her that has served under all leaderships to witness what has become of the FDC Electoral Commission.

According to the statement by NEC, the illegal and manipulated selections are in total violation of the June 16, 2023, 239th National Executive Committee’s decision.

Much as the party members are being barred from getting involved in the ongoing election exercise, one of the members identified as Asinansi Nyakato, a Woman Member of Parliament for Hoima in Bunyoro region said that, some of the districts around the country have already finalized with the voting.
