A group of protesters were intercepted by the police as they attempted to make their way to the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development to deliver a petition over the delayed compensation of the Project Affected Persons (PAPs).

Teenage pregnancy in Uganda remains a significant public health issue, with approximately 25% of girls aged 15-19 having either given birth or are currently pregnant, and an average of 1,000 teenage pregnancies reported each day, which poses a persistent challenge in addressing the issue.

The National Traffic and Safety Authority (NTSA) has estimated that 3,000 people die in road accidents every year, with many of the accidents occurring on weekends and public holidays in the hours between 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m., which are considered the peak times for accidents, with drink driving and carelessness cited as some of the main causes of accidents.

The police have done their best to curb this problem; however, they called for additional manpower from other security agencies because the problem has spiraled out of control.

Increased number of girls dropping out of school is mainly happening due to the ignorance and negligence of parents who are subjecting their young girls to early marriages and pregnancies instead of paying for their school fees to attain education.

The marathon, dubbed the ”Boda Boda Riders General Road Users Marathon,” will take place on Saturday, August 27, 2024, and the funds raised will be directed towards procuring ambulances and ensuring timely medical assistance for accident victims.
