Gov’t Reveals Strategies to Improve Teachers’ Welfare

The government has assured teachers of a plan to improve their working welfare.

This was announced by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on October 5th, Thursday, while presiding over the World Teachers’ Day celebration at Kololo Independent Grounds in Kampala.

The president said the government is committed to improving the welfare of teachers by building them modern accommodations, among other things.

He also reaffirmed his commitment to deliver the Ugx9 billion to support teachers’ SACCOs.

Regarding the salary increment for teachers, President Museveni said government will continue to do it in a phase manner. He said the first phase of increment was started with science teachers.

Janet Kataaha Museveni, the Minister of Education and Sports, said that the government in 2017 started the construction of teacher housing in every school under the programme of Uganda Intergovernmental Fiscal Transfers (UgIFT).

This year’s celebration is under the theme “The teachers we need for the education we want: The global imperative to reverse the teacher shortage.”
