The U.S. Department of State has warned about a possible terror attack in Uganda and cautioned its citizens to remain alert and avoid large public gatherings.

In a statement issued on Monday, September 4, 2023, the US Embassy in Kampala noted the advisory for Uganda is at Level 3 (reconsider travel) for terrorism.

“We remind you that the U.S. Department of State’s Travel Advisory for Uganda is at Level 3 (reconsider travel) for terrorism. There remains a threat of terrorist attacks in Uganda and throughout the region. As anyone can be a victim, U.S. citizens should remain alert and avoid large public gatherings,” reads the statement posted on the Embassy’s official website.

This is after the police evacuated a business centre in Bunamwaya, recovered an improvised explosive device, and thwarted a suicide bombing attack at Rubaga Miracle Centre, a church operated by the prominent preacher Pastor Robert Kayanja.

On Monday, September 4, 2023, SCP Fred Enanga, the police spokesperson, said a 28-year-old suspected suicide bomber was arrested before he entered the church yesterday.

He says the arrested suspect is helping the police locate three others believed to be part of a coordinated plot targeting churches across Uganda.

According to police reports, the man had concealed an improvised explosive device in a food flask placed in a bag.

Authorities successfully detonated the explosive, which comprised nails, a cell phone, a detonator, a booster charger, and other components.

In July, 2023 the U.K issued a terror alert in Uganda prior to the ADF terrorists attack in Kasese district.
