The Uganda Rotary Club is targeting to raise Ugx 2Bn in the cancer run scheduled to take place on August 27, 2023, under the inspiring theme “Run for Hope” at Kololo Independence Grounds and 40 other towns and cities with a target of 50,000 runners nationwide.
This will be the 12th edition of the Rotary cancer run. The run aims to raise a substantial sum of Ugx 2Bn to support the construction of a state-of-the-art cancer treatment facility at St. Francis Nsambya Hospital.
The Programs Development Officer, Rtn. Ritah Nakasawe eagerly said that, this year’s 12th cancer run will add to the successes that Rotary has registered in the past 11 editions they have had.
“What we can talk about is the Rotary Cancer ward which is in Nsambya Hospital. It is a 36 bed, operational cancer screening and treatment center,” Rtn. Nakasawe said.
Adding, “We are also proud to say that through the cancer run, we were able to construct the cancer blood bank in Mengo Hospital and now we are saying our energy is to have the radiotherapy unit set next to the cancer ward, so that people do not only receive chemotherapy but they are able to receive radiation.”
However, during a press conference held at Next Media Park on Tuesday, July 25, 2023, Edwin Danze, the Chief Marketing Officer of Next Media, expressed the organization’s enthusiasm and dedication to corporate social responsibility, adding that Next Media has injected Ugx 260m to this cause.
“Our commitment extends beyond their broadcasting platform, and we are resolute in joining the fight against cancer, a disease that affects countless lives nationwide,” Danze said.
“By supporting the Uganda Cancer Run 2023, Next Media aims to stand in solidarity with the cause, encouraging viewers, partners, and fellow citizens to unite and make a meaningful impact in the lives of cancer patients,” he added.
The cancer treatment facility is set to house two bunkers, a crucial addition to the country’s healthcare infrastructure to enhance cancer treatment accessibility for all Ugandans.
