MUBS Chancellor Urges Graduands to Fight Corruption as They Step into the Future

Dr . Crispus Kiyonga, the chancellor of Makerere University Business School (MUBS) has appealed to fresh graduates to hold their ground while seizing opportunities that lie ahead of them, highlighting the challenges faced by society including corruption, terrorism, drug abuse and excessive alcoholism.

While addressing hundreds of graduands at the 19th Makerere University Business School graduation ceremony on Friday, May 22nd, 2026, Kiyonga called upon graduates to stand collectively against corruption.

“Corruption undermines fairness, justice, and national development. You the youth should mantain self discipline and uphold peace, and play an active role in safeguarding Uganda’s future,” Kiyonga said.

He also expressed concern over the growing challenge of alcoholism and substance abuse,among the youth, revealing his plans to work with legislators in Parliament to advocate for stronger laws on alcohol and drug abuse prevention.

In addition, Kiyonga commended the institution ( MUBS ) for the relentless efforts aimed at linking graduates to technical colleges across the country to help transform their skills into sustainable business ventures and employment opportunities.

According to Professor Muhwezi, the Principal of Makerere University Business School, the institution is committed to academic excellence, innovation, entrepreneurship, and socio-economic transformation.

While addressing graduands, he highlighted the institution’s growing research impact, strategic international partnerships, digital transformation agenda, and efforts to equip graduates with the skills, adaptability, integrity, and innovation needed to thrive in a rapidly evolving world shaped by AI and emerging technologies.

He also congratulated graduands, applauding outstanding students and newly promoted professors where he encouraged fresh graduates to remain disciplined, solution-oriented, and committed to lifelong growth as they step into the future.

Paul Masereka, a fresh graduate with a bachelor of accounting and finance expressed his zeal for transforming Uganda through his commitment to fight aganist corruption and other evil disciplines that undermines the development of the Country.

He appealed to his fellow graduands to exhibit discipline and confidence to implement theory into practical.
