The changing outlook of some Kampala streets as city authorities intensify efforts to ease congestion, improve traffic flow, and restore order within the Central Business District following new parking restrictions along major roads.

Kampala Capital City Authority has suspended all on-street parking along sections of Kampala Road and Jinja Road in a move aimed at improving traffic flow, road safety, and mobility within Kampala’s Central Business District.

According to a public notice issued Tuesday, the suspension affects parking spaces stretching from the Entebbe Road junction through Kampala Road up to the Jinja Road/Yusuf Lule junction near Kitgum House.

KCCA said the directive takes immediate effect as part of broader efforts to ease congestion and create a safer transport environment within the city centre.

The authority advised motorists to use alternative parking locations including Station Road, Dewinton Road, Said Barre Avenue, and Nkrumah Road.

Drivers have also been encouraged to utilize parking spaces within buildings and commercial premises they intend to access, as well as commercial off-street parking facilities at the National Theatre, Uganda House, and the multi-storey car park along Portal Avenue.

KCCA noted that the new arrangements are intended to support smoother movement of vehicles and pedestrians while strengthening enforcement of urban traffic management measures.

“All motorists are requested to comply with the new parking arrangements and cooperate with enforcement officers,” the notice stated.

The development comes amid growing concerns over traffic congestion and limited parking space within Kampala’s busy city centre, especially along major commercial roads.

City authorities say the latest measures form part of ongoing plans to improve transport efficiency and modernize mobility management within the capital.

KCCA further appealed to motorists and members of the public for cooperation as the authority continues implementing measures aimed at creating what it described as “a safer and more efficient city transport system.”
