Kampala, Uganda – National Unity Platform (NUP) leader Robert Kyagulanyi, aka Bobi Wine, addressed the press on November 13, 2025, rejecting alleged military involvement in elections and urging voter vigilance amid escalating pre-poll tensions.
Bobi Wine, NUP presidential candidate, spoke out against a top UPDF official’s remarks on “protecting votes,” seen as undermining democracy under President Museveni, who commands the military.
He emphasized that only the Electoral Commission (EC) presides over polls, not the military, and called for public protection of votes to prevent interference.
This morning, before heading to Bushenyi for campaign rallies, as Uganda gears up for January 2026 elections, amid reports of military actions in areas like Mbarara.
In order to safeguard constitutional rights and democracy, citing risks from military overreach in a context of alleged suppression of opposition.
Through media statements and public calls for vigilance, countering UPDF claims of aiding police, as Bobi Wine defies warnings from figures like Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba.
Bobi Wine stated: “We shall not allow the military to interfere with the electoral process… We urge the public to be vigilant and exercise their constitutional right to vote and protect their vote. The election under our constitution is only presided by the Electoral Commission, and not the military.”
This comes amid arrests of NUP members and criticisms of Museveni’s long rule since 1986.
