The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) has lost one of its top senior ranking officers, Brigadier General Tom Kikoyo Kabuye, who was found dead on Sunday morning in Kikyusa Town Council, Luwero District.

His family confirmed in a statement expressing profound sorrow for his sudden passing.

“Brig Gen Tom Kabuye was discovered this morning at Kikyusa Town Council. May his soul rest in eternal peace,” the statement read.

The cause of death has not yet been officially established, however close associates revealed that the senior officer had been battling ill health for the past two years after suffering a stroke, a condition that had left him weakened and struggling in recent months.

Kabuye, who hailed from Luwero District, built a distinguished career within the UPDF, rising steadily through the ranks to become one of the most influential figures in Uganda’s military intelligence.

As Assistant Chief of Defence Intelligence, he played a central role in shaping security strategies and coordinating intelligence operations critical to the country’s defence.

His sudden passing comes at a time when the UPDF is preparing for a historic transformation in its leadership. In July 2027, more than 20 senior generals are scheduled to retire, marking one of the largest leadership transitions in the army’s history.

Kabuye was among those expected to leave active service as part of this generational shift, alongside veteran commanders who have shaped the force for decades. The upcoming retirements are expected to usher in a new era of military leadership, redefining the UPDF’s command structure and strategic direction.
