The Uganda Police has confirmed that 19 people died and 13 others were injured in a tragic lorry accident near Hillside Secondary School in Kigorobya, Hoima District.
According to a statement issued on August 6, 2025, by Traffic Police spokesperson Micheal Kananura, the accident involved a Fuso truck carrying traders returning from Wanseko Market in Buliisa District. Preliminary investigations indicate that the vehicle failed to climb a slope, rolled back, and overturned.
Kananura stated that the injured victims were rushed to a nearby hospital, while the bodies of the deceased were taken to the city mortuary for further investigation.
“The lorry, registration number UBB 39W, overturned after failing to ascend a hill, resulting in 19 deaths and 13 injuries. Our team responded quickly, dispatched ambulances, and retrieved the bodies,” Kananura said.
The Traffic Police is continuing its investigation and has urged all road users to exercise extra caution, especially when driving on hilly terrain.
