Security operatives in Mukono District have arrested three suspects believed to be behind a series of armed robberies that occurred in the early hours of Sunday, July 27, 2025, across multiple areas in Goma Division and surrounding locations.
According to police, the group armed with pangas reportedly launched a coordinated attack around 3:00 am, starting in Nabweru (Mukono District), before extending their criminal activities to Kyaliwajjala and Sonde in Wakiso District.
They later proceeded to Seeta Town in Mukono, and on their return to Nabweru, carried out another robbery near Namanve Industrial Park along the Kampala–Jinja highway.
Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson, Mr. Kituuma Rusoke, confirmed the arrests and revealed that the suspects were intercepted following a hot pursuit involving boda boda riders and officers from Namanve Coca-Cola Police Post.
“The suspects were found hiding behind KAWACOM Company premises in the Namanve Industrial Park. During the confrontation, one of them identified as Nsubuga attempted to hack an officer with a panga and was shot in the waist and leg to neutralize the threat,” Mr. Kituuma stated.
The other suspects were identified as Stephen Asimwe (26) and Musa Musinga (22). The police recovered three pangas, three smartphones suspected to have been stolen during the robberies, and a motorcycle bearing registration number UGG 597Y, believed to have been used in the criminal operation.
Nsubuga, who sustained injuries during the confrontation, was rushed to hospital for medical treatment and remains under guard.
Police said investigations are ongoing to determine the extent of the suspects’ involvement in similar incidents across the district, and to trace other possible accomplices.
“We want to assure the public that security agencies are working round the clock to restore calm and ensure the culprits face the law,” Mr. Kituuma added.
The attacks have sparked renewed concern among residents of Goma Division and neighbouring communities, who have raised alarm over rising cases of night robberies and the need for increased police patrols.
