Police in Gulu City has in custody Jacob Jonga, the Kwania Deputy Resident District Commissioner (RDC), after he allegedly assaulted Gillian Akullo, the Otuke Resident District Commissioner from Gulu City.
It’s alleged that Jonga physically attacked and severely assaulted RDC Akullo when she attempted to advise him to follow the line like others while signing for their transport allowance.
The officials, including LCV bosses, DISOs, RDCs, and RCCs, were invited to a special meeting organized by the Operation Wealth Creation Secretariat on Friday, June 23, 2023, at Gulu University.
According to the Police preliminary report, Deputy RDC Jonga reportedly picked a quarrel with Akullo when she politely advised him to follow the line like other colleagues were doing, but it appeared he was already jilted.
ASP David Ongom Mudong, the Aswa Regional Police Spokesperson confirmed the arrest, saying they have preffered charges of assault against Deputy RDC Jonga and his file will be forwarded to the State for legal advice.
Mudong described the incident as shameful and said it embarrasses the office of the President, adding that a Police Form III was issued to the victim to access a medical examination, and further inquiries are ongoing.
“We can’t allow such people to taint the good image of the President’s Office. He will have to face the law, and such behavior should be held accountable and face legal consequences,” ASP Mudong said.
Efforts to access comments from the victim proved futile, as she was too weak to present a comment to the media.
Minister for Presidency, Milly Babirye Babalanda, recently cautioned RDCs and Deputy RDCs against misconduct, saying they risk being sacked.
