As Uganda prepares to celebrate its 62 years since it got its independence on October 9, 2024, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is set to award 40 distinguished Ugandans with special medals.

These medals have been categorized by the Presidential Awards committee, as provided for in the National Honors and Awards Act, 2001.

In a press release dated October 4, 2024, Minister for the Presidency, Milly Babirye Babalanda, announced that the President approved the names of the distinguished individuals, who will be honored for their exceptional service to society.

“Forty (40) distinguished persons have been identified by the Chancery, and His Excellency the President has approved their names and will award them special medals,” the statement read.

According to the statement, the president will be joined by all Ugandans and dignitaries, including a special delegation from the United Arab Emirates led by their Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and the President of the Central African Republic, His Excellency Faustin Archange Touader.

The celebrations, which will take place in Masafu Town Council, Busia District, will run under the theme “Independence Day: A Re-commitment to Secure and Fortify Our Destiny.”

The awarding of medals is a tradition that acknowledges the efforts of citizens who have made significant impacts in various fields, reinforcing a sense of unity and pride among Ugandans.
