Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag could soon face the axe after a very poor display in the Europa League game against FC Porto on Thursday, October 3, 2024, that saw his side give up a 2-0 lead to forcing a 3-3 draw in the last minute.

Some of the former Manchester United players have asked the Manchester Board of Directors to fire Ten Hag and save the once great Manchester United from further embarrassment.

Tim Howard, a former Manchester United goalkeeper, said that after being given over £600 million since he joined the club, by now he should have settled in and presented a team capable of winning trophies.

“He has been given the money and opportunity, but sorry to say that none of his players deserve to wear that Manchester United jersey,” Howard said.

Former United captain Garry Neville accused Ten Hag of failure to build a culture at United, and players are just playing without any zeal of commitment to the club.

“I have watched all Manchester United games, and you can surely tell that there is no motivation or zeal for players; you can’t give away a 2-0 lead just like that. I have watched many games where the opponent comes from two goals down and goes ahead to win the game against United, and that’s unacceptable,” Neville said.

Paul Scholes, the former United midfielder, said that Manchester United’s problem is Ten Hag and if he fails to win the next 3 games he should be relived of his duties.

“We all believed in him, but for the last season and how he has begun this season, I don’t think Manchester United will spare him if he doesn’t improve in the next three games,” Scholes noted.

Manchester United has played six games in the Premier League and have won only two, lost three games, and drawn one game. They are currently sitting in the 13th position.

United have played two games in the Europa League and have drawn both games after leading, and then their opponents came from behind to snatch points from United.

Manchester United will face 5th placed Aston Villa on Sunday, October 6, 2024, at Villa Park before playing Brentford at Old Traford on October 19th and a visit to Turkey to play Fenerbahçe on October 24, 2024, which three fixtures could be crucial in determining the fate of the Dutch manager.
