The Nile Special 7s rugby tournament will resume over the weekend on August 10, 2024, with the Entebbe7s at Works Grounds, hosted by Mongers Rugby Club. This year’s Nile Special Rugby Sevens will feature 7 legs played across the country.
Eric Malinga, the brand manager of Nile Special-the sponsors of the tournament, revealed during a press conference held on Thursday, August 8, 2024, at Entebbe Travelers Hotel that there will be an increase in prize money for match day wins from the previous UGX 500,000 to UGX 1 million for both the male and female games every weekend.
“Based on the theme we are running, which is Raise Our Game, we are trying to call out everyone to raise their game. The brand itself has raised the prize money. We expect the players to raise their game to give more entertainment to the fans,” he said.
“We have basically increased the circuit winner’s prize money; last time it was UGX 500,000, but now it’s UGX 1000,000, so we are looking at UGX 2000,000 every weekend for the winner that is both women and men,” Malinga added.
Malinga revealed that Nile Special has boosted its sponsorship package for the 2024 Nile Special Rugby Sevens to UGX 570 million, up from UGX 520 million last year.
He also announced that fans will enjoy Nile Special beer at a discounted price during the games.
The tournament will run from August 10-11, 2024, and October 5-6, 2024.
