Three Arrested in Iganga Boda Boda Murders

While the investigations are still ongoing, the arrests of the three suspects provide hope for justice for the victims' families and the community.

Police in Busoga have apprehended three men in connection with the brutal murders of two boda boda riders in Iganga district.

According to the police, the double murders happened on June 11, 2024, in Namusisi village, Nabitende Kalungami sub-county in Iganga district.

The victims were identified as Bakari Zijjakiro, aged 40, and Isabirye Muhammad, aged 20, while the motorcycles taken were established as UFU 315Z and UEZ 932G, respectively.

The arrested suspects have been identified as Ramathan Mugabi, aged 32; Isma Kyaterekera, aged 35; and Isabirye Tenywa, aged 30.

During an interview with journalists on August 8, 2024, the Busoga East police spokesperson, ASP Diana Nandawula, confirmed the arrest of the three suspects and said that they were to aid in the investigations of the double murders in the district.

Nandawula further revealed that three suspects were brought before court on charges of murder and robbery using dangerous tools like big rods of sticks that they use to brutally injure or kill the victims whenever they commit these robberies.

’’These suspects killed both Zijakiro and Muhammad, who were boda boda riders in Namusisi village on June 11, 2024, and stole their motorcycles; however, they have been arrested and are now going to be charged for their crimes,’’ Nandawula said.

A preliminary police report indicates that Zijjakiro died on the spot, while Isabirye died on his way to Bugono Health Center.

Nandawula further revealed that while the investigations are still ongoing, the arrests of the three suspects provide hope for justice for the victims’ families and the community.
