Police in Gangu have arrested three suspects involved in the theft of boda boda motorcycles and the murders of the boda boda riders in Wakiso district.
The arrest happened on July 16, 2024, in Gangu B cell, Busabala ward in Masajja division, Makindye Ssabagabo municipality, after a security operation was carried out following a motorcycle with a tracker stolen from Masanafu on July 15, 2024, which was recovered in the suspects’ rental house.
According to preliminary information, the suspects, when stealing the motorcycle, did not know it had a tracker chip, but this helped police track it down.
The police found other stolen items inside the suspects’ rental, including stolen motorcycles without number plates and various number plates that were scrapped off the stolen motorcycles.
During an interview on July 16, 2024, the LC I Defense Secretary of Gangu B, Habib Wakadaka Kyambadde, revealed that when the police searched the suspects’ rental house, they first got four number plates; however, upon further inspection, numerous motorcycle number plates were discovered inside the house.
Kyambadde added that the four number plates, including UGB 284U, UAK 640L, and UAW 059M, were found in the sitting room, and it is believed that they might have been recently stolen by the suspects.
‘’It is so good that these stolen items were recovered and the culprits were apprehended; however, the owners of these recovered number plates and motorcycles are still unknown and might be dead or alive,’’ Kyambadde noted.
He further condemned these heinous acts and urged the youth to work for their money and stop indulging in law-breaking activities.
Police in Katwe and Kibibi declined to reveal the names of the suspects for now as they investigate further, as these three suspects are believed to be part of a larger gang involved in these crimes. The authorities vowed to work together to track down any other culprits involved in this boda boda theft and murder ring.
