Police in Kassanda district are investigating circumstances under which a 70-year-old male was hacked to death by a machete-wielding thug.

The deceased has been identified as Ezekiel Kabuto, a resident of Kiwangala village in Kassanda district.

This incident happened on May 28, 2024, in the night in Kiwangala village in Manyogaseka Sub County in Kassanda district.

While being interviewed by journalists on May 30, 2024, SP Rachael Kawala, the Wamala region police spokesperson, said that Kabuto was seated with his wife in the sitting room when he was attacked by the machete-wielding thug.

She added that when the thug broke into Kabuto’s house, he hit Kabuto first, then took Kabuto’s wife to their bedroom and locked her in the room, then came back to the sitting room and started cutting Kabuto with a machete until he died.

“When we inspected the deceased’s body, he had cuts all over his body, but his neck had the deepest cuts, and I believe they are the ones that led to his instant death,’’ Kawala revealed.

Kawala added that four days ago, unidentified thugs broke into Kabuto’s home, attacked him, and stole various things from his house, like money, solar panels, solar batteries, and other household things.

She also said that since the time the solar panels were stolen, the house has been dark with no lights, so the thug used it to his advantage to attack and kill him because he knew it would be hard to be identified.

His body was taken to Mityana General Hospital for a postmortem.
