The Uganda Law Society (ULS) has reaffirmed its commitment to Mrs. Barbara Itungo Kyagulanyi and her family, stating that the lifting of the security siege on the home of Hon. Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, also known as Bobi Wine, “changes nothing.”

In a strongly worded press statement issued on March 24, 2026, under the banner “Radical New Bar,” ULS President Isaac K. Ssemakadde, SC, together with Acting Secretary General Ssali Babu, emphasized that the three pledges made on January 23, 2026, during a high-level visit to the residence in Magere, Wakiso District, remain fully in force.

The statement acknowledged that the lifting of the siege is a positive development and may signal a return to normalcy for the family. However, the Society stressed that this does not reduce the need for full accountability.

“While this development represents a welcome de-escalation and possibly a return to normalcy for the affected household, it does not in any way diminish the need for full accountability,” the statement read.

The ULS outlined three key commitments: to petition the courts to ensure the siege is not only lifted but prevented in the future through systemic safeguards; to carry out an independent forensic investigation aimed at securing compensation, remedies, and potential prosecution of those responsible, including possible action at the International Criminal Court; and to convene a national dialogue on issues of systemic repression, enforced disappearances, and political persecution.

The Society revealed that it has already taken legal action by filing a case in the Kasangati Chief Magistrate’s Court (Miscellaneous Cause No. 30 of 2026), through its Legal Aid Project led by Advocate Benon Makumbi.

ULS reassured Mrs. Kyagulanyi, her family, and the public that it remains resolute in pursuing justice.

“We will not relent, we will not be deterred by any developments, and we will not accept any compromise that falls short of full accountability,” the statement emphasized.

The Society concluded by reaffirming its solidarity with the Kyagulanyi family, pledging to continue standing firmly with them in the pursuit of justice.
